Rename a button, menu command, or menu
You can rearrange and modify toolbar buttons, menus, and menu commands by using the mouse or you can use the Rearrange Commands dialog box which is accessible using a keyboard menu. These tasks are identified as (keyboard accessible).
Do one or more of the following:
Rename a button or menu command
- On the Tools menu, click Customize.
- Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.
How?
- In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
- Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
- Do one of the following:
Rename a menu command
- Click the menu that contains the command.
- Click the command.
- In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection, type a name in the Name box, and then press ENTER.
Rename a toolbar button
- Click the button
- In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection, type the name in the Name box, and then press ENTER.
- On the Customize dialog box, click Close.
Note If the toolbar button doesn't display text, you won't see the name change except when you view the ScreenTip by resting the mouse pointer on the button.
Rename a button or menu command (keyboard accessible)
- On the
Tools menu, click Customize.
- Make sure the toolbar you want to change is visible.
How?
- In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
- Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
- In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.
- Click Rearrange Commands.
- Do one of the following:
Rename a menu command
- If the menu you want to change is on the menu bar, click Menu Bar and then click the menu you want in the Menu Bar list.
If the menu you want to change is on a toolbar, click Toolbar, and then click the menu that you want in the Toolbar list. For example, click Drawing|AutoShapes to rename a command on the AutoShapes menu on the Drawing toolbar.
- In the Controls list, click the command you want to rename.
Rename a toolbar button
- Click Toolbar, and then click the toolbar you want to change in the Toolbar list.
- In the Controls list, click the button you want to rename.
- Click Modify Selection, type a name in the Name box, and then press ENTER.
Note
Although the new button name appears in the Controls list, unless the toolbar button displays text,
you won't see the name change on the button except when you view the ScreenTip by resting the mouse pointer on the button.
Rename a menu
- On the Tools menu, click Customize.
- With the Customize dialog box open, click the menu you want to rename.
- In the Customize dialog box, click Modify Selection, type the new name in the Name box on the shortcut menu, and then press ENTER.
- On the Customize dialog box, click Close.
Rename a menu (keyboard accessible)
- On the Tools menu, click Customize.
- If the menu you want to change is on a toolbar, make sure the toolbar is visible.
How?
- In the Customize dialog box, click the Toolbars tab.
- Select the check box for the toolbar you want to display.
- In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.
- Click Rearrange Commands.
- To rename a menu on the menu bar, click Toolbar, and then click Menu Bar in the Toolbar list.
To rename a menu on a toolbar, click Toolbar, and then click the toolbar you want in the Toolbar list.
- In the Controls list, click the menu you want to rename.
- Click Modify Selection, type the new name in the Name box on the shortcut menu, and then press ENTER.
